What is a domain name?

A domain name is a unique name that identifies your website. For example, www.qantas.com.au would be the domain name for the Qantas website. In your business' case, the domain name would be www.yourbusiness.com.au. This is dependent on the availability of the domain name you require.

A domain name typically costs around $65 for two years and is considered mandatory for the professional appearance of a business on the web. Contact us directly to find out if your desired domain name is available.

What is hosting?

Hosting refers to the storing of your website on a computer that is connected to the internet so your customers can view that website. Just as you pay a telephone company a monthly fee to keep your mobile phone live on a network, a hosting fee needs to be paid to keep your website live on the internet. Can I update the website myself?

Yes. For a client to be able to update their own website without the need of a professional web developer requires a Content Management System (CMS) to be installed. Stockstreet encourages clients to take ownership of their website and have a CMS installed on their website. This means you can make basic text or image changes to your web pages and when more complicated changes are required, call in the cavalry (i.e. us). The software is extremely easy to use and we will we give you a training demonstration on how to use it when we deliver the site.

Of course, if your business does not permit you the time to make changes to your website, Stockstreet is happy to take on this role at an agreed rate.

How much will the website cost?

No two websites are the same in either design or function. Hence, we can not advertise a dollar price. Having said that, we believe that we are very good at what we do, and we are very reasonable in our pricing. Call us for a quote and we guarantee you will be impressed with the cost.

I don't have any photos - what am I going to put on the website?

We use a combination of stock photography and digital photography to present the very best impression for your business. The cost of both of these is included in the cost of your website.

Stockstreet is happy to come to your business or visit other sites to take digital photos for your website. We use a Fuji Finepix S3000 digital camera for all our web photography - this camera was recognised for its quality by PC User Magazine in its November 2004 edition. This coupled with our expertise in Adobe Photoshop means top class images for your website.

Can I have my website built in stages?

We understand that for a business to commit itself to a larger online effort such as e-commerce facilities, inventory, etc., areas of the site may have to be developed in stages. For example, the overall design paired with a low number of pages may suffice for a business until online payments become a vital necessity. We will take you through these options at the time of quoting.

What is the process for getting the website done?

The first step is for us to meet and have a chat about exactly what your business needs to do. At this first appointment, have as much marketing material gathered as possible i.e. photos, brochures, business cards and marketing copy.

Once your consent has been received to proceed and deposit received, we will set about drafting the design of your site. We are proud of our drafting process in that it is a fully interactive experience with the client that may go into a third draft just to get the design just right. All drafts are presented to you on the Stockstreet server.

Following your OK on the design, we then set about building the pages as per your specifications. Full coding, optimisation and testing is carried out to ensure your website is as efficient and search engine-friendly as it can possibly be.

Upon presentation of all pages, one last round of changes is permitted to get the site up to speed. During this time, all domain name and hosting details are to be submitted by the client or organised by us, depending on your needs.

Finally, the site is loaded to the internet and your business is officially "online".

I don't have any existing marketing copy - what am i going to use for text on the website?

Stockstreet will compose marketing copy for you at a marginal cost. It is vital that prior to our first meeting, you jot down exactly what it is your business does and why a customer should choose you over the competition. Another way of looking at it is to pretend that you were sending a submission to the Government for a grant of $10 million. How would you describe your business for that submission.

From that, we will be able to create compelling, persuasive copy for your website.

The same top-quality result will always be delivered. Because the success of our business is entrenched in the success of yours.
